{"id":47,"date":"2018-02-02T19:27:47","date_gmt":"2018-02-02T19:27:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/familycraftedtravels.com\/?p=47"},"modified":"2018-03-08T18:06:22","modified_gmt":"2018-03-08T18:06:22","slug":"costume-ideas-part-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/familycraftedtravels.com\/?p=47","title":{"rendered":"Costume Ideas Part 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of our most favorite vacation spots is Walt Disney World in Orlando. \u00a0My kiddos loved dressing up as characters on our visits but hated the itchy, hot, and uncomfortable costumes available at stores. \u00a0My remedy for that was to make costumes for them to wear. \u00a0Unfortunately, I struggle with sewing. \u00a0Fortunately, my mother in law does not. \u00a0She is very talented at sewing and gladly accepted the challenges of making Disney-themed costumes. \u00a0The first one we collaborated to make was a Lilo (from the movie Lilo and Stitch) costume.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-58 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/familycraftedtravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Lilo1-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/familycraftedtravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Lilo1-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/familycraftedtravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Lilo1-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/familycraftedtravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Lilo1-683x1024.jpg 683w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My mother in law sewed the dress from red cotton fabric I found at Joann&#8217;s craft and fabric store. \u00a0I then put cardboard on the inside of the dress (to prevent the paint from bleeding through to the other side) and painted white leaves using a stencil I\u00a0made and white fabric paint.\u00a0 A Cricut machine would be perfect for a project like this.\u00a0 I recently bought one and can&#8217;t wait to use it on future costumes.<\/p>\n<p>I found a plumeria-like lei at Party City that closely matched the one Lilo wore. \u00a0I made a hair clip with a red hibiscus flower I purchased from a craft store. \u00a0The stuffed animals were souvenirs purchased at Disney.\u00a0\u00a0The outfit was such a hit with my little Lilo as well as with park visitors and Cast Members. \u00a0It was very common for cast members to yell out, &#8220;Hey Lilo, where&#8217;s Stitch?&#8221; \u00a0My little Lilo was thrilled every single time this happened!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/familycraftedtravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/IMG_9264.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-57 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/familycraftedtravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/IMG_9264-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/familycraftedtravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/IMG_9264-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/familycraftedtravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/IMG_9264-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/familycraftedtravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/IMG_9264-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On our next trip to Disney, we planned a breakfast at &#8216;Ohana at the Polynesian Resort. \u00a0My little Lilo had outgrown her Lilo dress so I decided to make Lilo t-shirts for both kiddos. \u00a0I purchased t-shirts from Joann and followed the same process. \u00a0I made sure to put a piece of cardboard between the two pieces of t-shirt. \u00a0I used my handy stencil to trace the leaf shape with pencil. \u00a0It took me several layers of white fabric paint to get the leaf to look opaque. One layer just doesn&#8217;t cut it!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/familycraftedtravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Lilo2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-59 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/familycraftedtravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Lilo2-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/familycraftedtravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Lilo2-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/familycraftedtravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Lilo2-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/familycraftedtravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Lilo2-682x1024.jpg 682w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The t-shirts were paired with shorts since we were going to be at Magic Kingdom all day.\u00a0 I love putting costumes together.\u00a0 I especially love to come up with outfits for the kids now that they are older. They can still Disney Bound (wear regular\/street clothing that follows Disney themes or specific Disney characters).
